The design elements we use will prioritise materials that have a low embodied energy including those that can be reused intact or recycled. At least 50% of timber and timber products are sourced from accredited FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) or PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of forestry Certification) for the endorsement are durable to cater for their level of use and exposure. We will even guard against the release of toxins into the external and internal environment.
Materials will be chosen that have a minimal environmental impact, are form sustainable or recycled sources and, where feasible, are locally sourced to reduce transportation impacts, prioritising the following factors. Life cycle cost (£ and CO2) Direct use of renewable materials, strong recycled content to minimise waste to landfill, ethical sourcing and a design structure that is tailored for deconstruction. We approach every scheme resolute in the practices and knowledge that 60% of the products used during the construction phase will not reach land fill and we also believe that this percentage will only increase as we refine our processes.
